What Would Mr. Marcus Say?

I think it’s pretty obvious that he would not approve of the tear down of his historic house in Lakewood. Especially since the owners had applied for historic status when they bought it; and I think we all are aware of Mr. Marcus‘ level of taste and quality. The owner’s reason?  Make it more energy efficient.  I’m sorry, that just doesn’t work for me - tear something precious down to build again?  Not exactly green thinking.  I’m reminded of the tear down of the stone and slate masterpiece at the corner of Rheims and Armstrong that had been  last year.  When Susan Palma went up to the demo contractor and asked what in the heck they were doing, he said, “The inside was bad.”  She brought herself up to her full 5′3″ height and said, “Excuse me. The inside was not bad, I did it.”

Have you checked the DMN today? Looks like they are not going to tear down the house.

Are you talking about the editorial page? It doesn’t sound like he is sure of anything.

“The Dallas banker who had earlier announced plans to demolish the house built by Stanley Marcus has changed his mind.”

Mrs. Levinson…please make for the checking of sources, rather to upset us in the Lakewood neighboorhoods.

My apologies - I had only read the editorial page. Thanks for the input - and the happy ending.

Back to the Rheims house…. The contractor also explained to me that it SHOULD come down because the rooms were “choppy”. I replied that in some circles, that’s called “charming”! Now, all of those nooks and crannies will probably metamorphis into the ubiqutious “media room”.
P.S.The only untrue fact in that story is that I am 5 foot 3 and one half!!!

No one said anything to S. Crow for Changing or remodeling the famous Chateau Abrahms at 6311 Mercedes he has been working on the 4 acre project for several years now. It still remains beautiful. Thank God he left those elegant grey hounds that sit guard at the entrance. This home by the way is in the Who’s Who of Homes from the 30’s i believe.
