“It’s open season for Turner”

218023-2.jpg One of my favorites–J. M. W. Turner–is coming to the DMA in February. Think back to your art history or your last trip to the Tate Britain; he’s the sublime landscape and historical landscape painter. Tomorrow the DMA is getting the first of several shipments in, and one of the crates is so big (it contains the “Battle of Trafalgar”) that the doors to the Hamon entrance have to be disassembled to get it inside. I think Dallas is going to like this exhibit. If nothing else, the sheer size will impress; these canvases wouldn’t even fit in our McMansions. As curator Heather MacDonald said, “It’s open season for Turner.”

I hope that the pictures come to no harm, unlike Turner’s Slavers from Boston a year or two ago.
