You may have dipped into our November/December absolutely glamorous chic luxury gift guide by now. The design books section was just too die for over the top fabulously chic. Have you noticed the excess of adjectives in local publications lately? The same five or so adjectives? Well, it seems it isn’t just locally, either. I discovered Elle Decor’s latest design book, and I was much chagrined to see the title: Elle Decor So Chic: Glamorous Lives, Stylish Spaces. Maybe I am a Christmas grinch, but enough is enough. I’ve made my New Year’s resolution. No more chic! (The only exception is if you are French.) Aside from the title, I would recommend the book, though. A) Design books make nice holiday gifts. B) Editor-in-chief Margaret Russell has excellent taste. C) How else are you going to see the homes of Roberto Cavalli, Cindy Crawford, and Ralph Lauren?
The title of “So Chic,” according to the book’s introduction, was inspired by a phrase often used by the great antiques dealer Roger Prigent, who is a longtime friend of the magazine — and French to boot! So I think the use of the word “chic” in the title is forgivable! Not to mention charming!
